The purpose of the Houghton Lake Area Tourism Bureau (HLATB) is to promote tourism and conventions in Roscommon County, or the greater Houghton Lake Area. The HLATB markets Roscommon County as a travel destination to drive “heads in beds” in our hotels and motels.
The Bureau is comprised of Active Members who are hotel/resort owners (Places to Stay on our Website) and Associate members, who are people, organizations and/or businesses supporting tourism activities in Roscommon County. A complete list of our Associate Members can be found here.
The Bureau was incorporated under the laws of the State of Michigan, under the specific provisions of the Community, Convention, and Tourism Marketing Act, being Public Act 59, and is funded by a 2% assessment collected by Active Members per Public Act 59 and by yearly dues paid by Associate Members.
The HLATB works with the local Chambers of Commerce in Houghton Lake, St. Helen, and Higgings Lake and Roscommon Chamber of Commerce to promote events and activities. We also actively engage with the Economic Development Corporation and other Convention and Tourism Bureaus across the state.
The HLATB is managed by a Board of Directors elected by the members of the bureau. A majority of board members are owners of hotels/resorts. Day to day operations is led by the HLATB Executive Director. Current leadership includes:
President: Dave Clouse
Vice-President: Kurt Beachnau
